Most Compaq Laptop Keyboards have multimedia buttons, but few share the same layout.Very few keyboards are restricted to the QWERTY keys, arrows and a number pad these days; many incorporate multimedia and extra function keys into their layouts. Windows is capable of automatically recognizing many of the additional functions performed by "hot keys," but it's sometimes necessary to change the hardware settings to achieve the desired result. An ergonomic Compaq Laptop Keyboard , for example, can increase your efficiency exponentially, so it's worth taking a little time to tweak these useful hot keys.

* 1

Click the "Start" button or open "My Computer" and launch the Control Panel in Windows.
* 2

Click the "Keyboard" settings button.
* 3

Open the "Buttons" tab and select the function from the list that you want to assign to a specific hot key or multimedia key.
* 4

Choose the command you want it to carry out in the "Choose a button capability:" menu and then enter the text you'd like to designate to this button in the "Display label:" box. Click "OK" to finish.

Tips & Warnings

*

If the Compaq Laptop Keyboard came with driver software, always install it before making adjustments through Windows.
*

Third-party software can be installed to add extra customization to a keyboard's functions.
