Everyday use of your Dell Inspiron can cause the buttons to loosen or even fall off of the keyboard. The buttons require little time and effort to replace if the key assembly is intact. The key assembly consists of small plastic clips that attach the key to the keyboard. If this part is missing or broken, you may need to replace the Dell Inspiron 6400 keyboard altogether.
Turn off the Dell Inspiron and inspect the area where you want to place the Dell Inspiron 6400 keyboard buttons. If its dirty or dusty, clean the area with compressed air.
Place the Dell Inspiron 6400 keyboard button squarely on top of the key assembly, and press down until you hear a snapping sound. You may need to adjust the keyboard button a few times before it snaps into place.
Press the key a few times to make sure it's correctly positioned on the keyboard. If it comes loose or falls off, reposition the key and try again.
