Whether you are installing a new external keyboard, or reinstalling one after troubleshooting problems, you will have to enable the Sony Laptop Keyboard properly within Windows to use it. This is done by installing the drivers for your external keyboard, and verifying that they are working successfully. If you have never before tried to enable a external keyboard on your Sony laptop, you might have questions as to the proper approach for enabling the keyboard device. Most external devices have onboard drivers that automatically install when they are connected.
* 1
Connect the external keyboard to the computer using the USB cable and USB ports. If your Sony Laptop Keyboard does not have an attached USB cable, plug one end of the USB cable to the device and the other end to a USB port on the computer.
* 2
Wait for the onboard drivers to load. When they are finished being installed, you will see a notification screen in the bottom right of your screen confirming the installation.
* 3
Go to "Start," right-click on "My Computer," then select "Device manager."
* 4
Click on "Hardware and Sound," then select the "Sony Laptop Keyboards" section. Double-click on the name of the keyboard that was installed, then verify that there is not a warning message. The driver error warning messages are usually represented by a question or exclamation mark. If you do not see a warning, your device is ready to be used.
